How To Be Awesome - Sports Edition

Being a single girl in Southern California can have its ups and downs. There have been plenty of times where I crashed a date and was the third wheel so I could get out of the house, and plenty of days I stayed home watching a movie, or worked out at the gym on a Saturday night. These are all fine things to do, but I was getting a little bored and I decided I needed to make my own fun and not wait around for someone to make my life more interesting.
I have really made this a priority this year and I have discovered some things that I now love to do with friends or by myself and make new friends. My life is fuller because I decided to get out there and try new things and not be worried I would be terrible or fail. I decided to share some of the things I have come across and share them in a series called "How to Be Awesome." This weekend was no exception and it was a fun sports filled weekend.
Friday night was hockey night. This year I discovered the great sport that is hockey. Where men take a skate to the face, get 35 stitches, and go back out and make assists to help their team win (total Brad Staubitz shout out!) I am so lucky that the Anaheim Ducks and the Honda Center are just a 30 minute drive down the 57 and I have some great friends who enjoy hockey and will teach me more about the game.
One of the best things about Duck's games are you can go and enjoy the game without spending tons of money. I have been to three games this season and have not paid more than $20 for a great night. Websites like eBay and Stubhub are great places to look for cheap tickets. There really is not a bad seat, you can see the action from the top of the Honda Center, although sitting at the glass is an even
As we were leaving the Duck's game we saw a sign for the Island Golf Center Driving Range. It is a great driving range where you aim for little islands in a lake. It tests your ability and accuracy which I do not possess.
I have been to a driving range once about 6 years ago and was not amazing at it and my friend had never been. We looked it up and a large bucket of balls was just $7.50 and they gave you clubs to use, in case your older brother wouldn't lend you his. My friend and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful So Cal weather today and try out our PGA style golf skills.
You may be thinking that it was a terrible for two girls to go hit some golf ball with absolutely no experience, and you would be so wrong. I showed my friend the two things I remembered from my one lesson and we went to work. Yes, there were plenty of times we missed the ball completely or hit it 3 feet in front of us, but, there were many more times of success. After about an hour we hit a few balls about 75 yards and almost hit a few islands and ducks too.
It was fun and not embarrassing to be bad. We made some new friends who taught us a few more tricks and enjoyed a day in the sun with a little workout as well
